Location Change! October 10th Meeting Goes Public
We will meet for the lecture at the Thomistic Institute at 7pm, then reconvene afterwards for discussion in the biergarten at Savage Craft Ale Works in West Columbia.
Just like that we have our first open-to-the-public meeting!
Tuesday, October 10th:
Topic presentation at 7pm at the University of South Carolina, Wardlaw Hall room 126, Thomistic Institute lecture free and open to the public, register here.
Approximately 8:30 pm discussion group meets after the lecture at the Savage Craft Ale Works biergarten, anyone is welcome to join us.
Right after we sent out details to the locals-only mailing list for a private organizational gathering on Tuesday the 10th at 7pm, we learned that the Thomistic Institute’s USC chapter is hosting a lecture on ethics and conscience in healthcare at the exact same time.
This is right on topic for us, and it seemed ridiculous to say, “Let’s have a meeting to form a group to learn about and discuss topics of interest to the average intelligent layman” when exactly that was happening just when we’d planned to meet anyway.
So, we will meet first at 7pm at Wardlaw Hall room 126 at the University of South Carolina for the free, open-to-the-public lecture by Prof. Farr Curlin (Duke University), “What Does Conscience Have to Do With Healthcare?”
Please register for this lecture so that our hosts at the local chapter of the Thomistic Institute can anticipate attendance, and so that you receive updates if there are any location changes. I’ve been to TI events before, and they draw a great group of people.
Afterwards we will reconvene for discussion time in the biergarten at Savage Craft Ale Works in West Columbia. (This part of the brewery is open to minors with a parent or parent-designated guardian in attendance — that’s one of our rules anyway— and yes the kitchen serves non-alcoholic drinks. Good food as well, if you missed your dinner.) Estimate that we’ll be rolling in at approximately 8:30, depending on how the lecture goes.
In addition to conversation spurred by the lecture, we also have the following topics on our mind:
Name ideas for the group. We’ll do ranked-order voting once we have a slate of suggestions.
Input on what you’d like to see this become.
Can’t make it Tuesday? If you subscribe here or on the locals-only list, you can send input and ideas by replying to either email in your inbox.
